Moose Siblings

When I left the house on Friday to do a few errands I spotted two young moose siblings as I left our neighborhood. I always keep my camera handy next to me. I do not recommend that one films while driving but I was moving very slowly and the road is not a busy one.

Halle was in the back seat having a fit!

The snow is so deep all over town. So far we have received over 90 inches of snow. It is not snowing at present but it is very cold. The moose are forced onto the roads as it is too deep for them to browse easily. We drivers must be very alert to their presence.

It's not surprising Halle was having a fit .

Wow, good job Halle! I'd give them a piece of my mind too. Actually, that's a great video. Neat critters. Boy, 90"...you win!

I can't get over moose just roaming around the neighborhood. That would be like a cow roaming around in mine! LOL

Oh yeah, Lady would have been going completely beserk. That's amazing, how moose are just everywhere there where you live... like squirrels here, lol! I guess all the snow that is NOT falling everywhere else this winter, is falling in Alaska! We've not had a single inch of snow yet.. though snow showers are predicted for tonight. We'll see. For once however, I am content with no snow, given that I am babysitting an errant hummingbird, lol!

And I have a question - how do you pronounce "Halle?" I've been saying (in my head of course) "Hayley." Is that right? I loved the nicknames, but Halle Berry got me wondering if it's pronounce "Holly" and I've had it wrong all this time! :)

What do moose eat in the winter? Do people feed them? It seems like finding chow would be very difficult with that much snow on the ground.

Brenda - Halle is pronounced exactly the same as Halle Berry says her name. :)

Allison- moose are vegetarians. They eat leaves, bark, bushes. Because the snow is so deep they have to come down the mountains to graze - which puts them at risk to get hit by cars, trains... & they will stomp! One must give moose a lot of space.

You live in such a beautiful part of the country Ina! I cannot imagine being careful not to run into a moose though! I worry about deer around here...we have ALOT of them. Halle must have been going crazy!!! My girlz would have been too!!! At least you were able to get out and about a little bit and you aren't snowbound. I do the same thing with the camera...always have it with me! I have never seen a moose up close before!! Thank you for sharing the video!!

90 inches of snow? You don't say. I am looking at my nice brown lawn and being thankful I am not in Alaska. Although it would be fun to see the occasional moose.

I'm playing catch up reading everybody's blogs now that I'm feeling a little better. It may take me a week. I'm with Halle on the moose and company. They can get pretty aggressive. I've seen it on the road in New England. GREAT video though.

I love Moose and this video made my day. Living in the Midwest we have only received 2" of snow (bad bad for us) our snow looks great.
